The Real Woman Foundation in collaboration with Agape Household visited the Oru Refugee Camp on the 11th of June 2005. The camp has a population of about 4000 people from war torn African countries. 90% are Liberians while others of minority are Ivorians, Sierra-Leonians etc.
The RWF, Agape Household, members of Daystar Christian Centre and other well wishing individuals made donations of rice, beans, garri, Indomie, cartons of drugs, carton of clothes, bibles and books. Some people also donated financially. Before we embarked on the trip, a day of fasting and prayer was declared for the outreach and people turned out to pray for the people on the camp and their nations. On the day of the trip, an LSDPC bus was made available to convey everyone who had registered for the outreach and also the RWF bus was used to convey some of the materials and people who couldnt secure a sit on the big bus. Some people also traveled with us in their personal cars.
The convoy of about 90 people arrived at Oru at 11.30am. We were received with much joy and were taken around the camp where we met some people at their various houses and invited them to join us at the church auditorium. The meeting started at 12.00 clock with a large turnout of both adults and children. The President of the RWF, Pastor Nike Adeyemi was introduced to the people by one of the host pastors and she ministered to the people from Jeremiah 29: 11 about the promises of God to the children of Israel who were once in a similar situation that they are now in.
She encouraged and exhorted them not to give up and that there is still hope for the salvation of their nations. An altar call was made and some of the people dedicated their lives to Christ. She also prayed for people with specific needs and problems. After the ministration, the gift items were distributed to the people. They were exceptionally happy for the bibles and Christian literatures written by Pastors Sam & Nike Adeyemi given to them. Some, who were sick or who had sick babies were attended to by a pharmacist who went with us. Drugs were prescribed and given out to them.
The team departed at 4.00pm in the evening for Lagos. Some of the people we ministered to and counseled personally were sad to see us leave as they wished we could take them down to Lagos with us. We gave out our phone numbers to some of the people so as to stay in touch with them. The trip was a very successful one and it left a strong yearning in our hearts to help people who are suffering in our society and in Africa at large. Thank you all our partners for making a difference and helping us to reach out to hurting and hungry people.
