Dear friends,
About a few weeks ago, I attended a week long evangelistic program
organised by my Church denomination in Lagos, Nigeria. It was an awesome
time with lots of great life changing messages. However, there was a
particular message I listened to by a certain Man of God based in Ghana,
West Africa called Mensah Otabil , that had a great impact on my life,
which I would like to share with you. I pray it would be a blessing to
you too....
The text was from the very familiar story in 1Kings 4:1- 7. The story
of the Elisha and the Widow’s oil . She had come to meet the man of
God at a desperate point of her life, with no husband, no money, and
heavily in debt with the possibility of loosing her two sons. She had
gotten to a point of her life, where she felt she had nothing around her
that she could use to solve her problem, and so sought counsel from the
man of God. As she approached him, he directed her back to looking
around her for the solution to her problem. There were three things she
needed for her miracle........
1) God’s input - This was the prophetic Word given to her
by the man of God, asking her what she had in the house, and telling
her to go borrow vessels and pour her oil into them. (1Kgs.4:3-5). God
would always give His Word as a solution to our problems, either
directly to us, or through someone else. Our part is to do the following
with it: · Hear it · Accept it and · Act on it 2) The Woman’s input - Elisha asked her what she had in
the house and her reply was.......... Your maidservant has nothing in the
house but a jar of oil....(vs 2). She looked at her present state, and
concluded that there was nothing she had that could be used by God to
bring her out of debt and the messy situation she was in. Likewise
many times we look down on ourselves, and draw the same conclusions.
However, the truth of the matter is that there is something God has placed
within everyone of us to launch us out into great heights in life.
This could be a skill, a talent, a gift, an opportunity and so on. He did
not make anyone useless or empty in life. There is at least
something you and I have that will make us stand out in life, if only we pay
attention to it. Hers was the oil in a jar which was her stepping stone
into finacial breakthrough, but she never realised it. We need to
discover the oil in us and pour it out in larger vessels around us so that
we can have more room for expression of our hidden potentials. 3) Other people’s input - The Man of God further
counselled her to ... Go borrow vessels from everywhere. She had her oil in a
small jar and this limited her, so she needed to reach out to other
people around her to borrow their vessels. She was not told to borrow oil,
but empty vessels. These are things you can get from other pople- like
ideas, principles, experinces and so on. This calls for humility, in
being willing to learn from others, especially those that have gone ahead
of . In essence once you discover your oil, be ready to be a protege
or apprentice to someone who is already doing in an excellent way what
you would one day love to do. If possible, be willing to offer your
services free, all so that you can have an opportunity to keep pouring out
your oil, because the more she kept on pouring, the more the oil kept
on flowing. The moment the vessel finished, the oil also ceased! Once the three things above are in place in your life, shut the door in
prayers and as you begin to profit from your oil, do not forget to
give back to the Lord out of your substance.......In the words of
Elisha........ Go, sell the oil and pay your debt, and you and your sons live
on the rest......(1Kgs.4:7) God bless you, Omokorede Adewale Fasoro
