………..And they said to him, we each had a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. So Joseph said to them, Do not all interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me please……..(Gen.40:8)
A couple of months ago, I was scheduled to teach at the weekly Bible study in my church on a Tuesday evening. As it is sometimes in Lagos, we got tied up in a serious holdup for over one hour, that would have gotten me very late for church. As the time began to tick away, I suddenly became so restless sitting in the car as I thought of people in the church waiting to be blessed of the Lord through His Word that evening. After spending about an hour waiting for the hold up to clear up, I was stirred up to get out of the car and to begin to walk to Church. For someone like me, who is not really into a daily routine of walking (This is one area I know I need to work on), it would have seem an almost impossible task! Anyway, I got down and walked the entire distance of about 500m without even thinking about it, or feeling tired at all! It was not until I got to church that I realized I had walked that far tirelessly! I began to ask myself what could have given me such an energy to do something I ordinarily would not have done. Then I realized what the driving force was- PASSION! All that was on my mind as I began to walk was the burning desire to teach, the opportunity to be able to impart knowledge once again fired me on. I could see the faces of the people waiting to be imparted by the Word as I continued in the walk, and before I knew it, I was at my destination! Passion is powerful! It makes you reach for goals you ordinarily would not have.
Dear friend, I would like to challenge you once again, to look into your heart, and ask yourself what you have a passion for. What do you love to think or talk about? What can you do without getting tired or bored? These are some of the things that will help you discover your unique make up. Personal Discovery for a child of God should not be a very difficult task full of mystery and suspense, if we just pay attention to some things He has divinely placed inside us to help us know how He has wired us. Just as you have a unique physical heartbeat, you also have a unique emotional heartbeat. There is a God given reason why you love what you love, why you have certain interests and burdens and not some other things. As Rick Warren puts it in his best selling book-- Purpose Driven Life,………God has given each one of us a unique heartbeat that races when we think about the subjects, activities, or circumstances that interest us. We instinctively care about some things and not about others. These reveal the nature of your heart……..
The bible passage at the top of this write up, was part of a conversation between Joseph and two men who were in prison with him. One was the King’s butler, and the other was his baker. They had both been put in prison by the King for certain reasons. At this time, Joseph too was in prison for an offence he had not committed. He had every reason to be bitter with God, his brothers and every other person around him. However, because he was a young man living his life on purpose, he had the right heart attitude and committed himself to using everything God had placed within him to be a blessing to others. He had a passion to solve problems for people wherever he was, whether as a slave or a prisoner. He was passionate about helping people to solve their problems, using the ability to interpret dreams God had given him. Years after, this was exactly what took him to the top in a strange land that he had entered as a slave!
I pray for you this week, that as you pursue your passion, you will be one step nearer to the top that God has destined for every true child of His. And may the pursuit of your heart’s passion under God’s leading, as it did for Joseph open great doors for you in life, in Jesus mighty name. Amen!
