The Real Woman Foundation received a phone call from a Police station in respect of two abandoned children. On getting there, no background information was given on the children, other than they were abandoned around mid December 2007 along Opebi in Lagos state, Nigeria. Their ages could not be ascertained as well. The two children were handed over to the Foundation in a very devastating state of health. They were unable to neither walk nor talk, seriously mal-nourished, had lost appetite, had mouth thrush etc. The older boy we guess was around 3 years came in with wounds on his right leg, which also complicated his walking. The younger one should be around 1 ˝ years old. It was assumed that they are from the same parent as they look alike a bit. Due to their state of health mentioned above, the children were taken to the General Hospital at Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria, where they were treated for malaria and their blood samples taken for blood examinations. When the situation did not improve, they were taken to another private hospital for further treatment and were admitted for three days. The condition improved when they came back from the hospital and have been on high protein diets. The results of the blood test reveal that they were XYZ negative. Social background From all indications, it is very evident that the children are coming from an emotionally barren environment as they could not communicate with any one. They also did not mix well with other children and were a little bit hostile in relation to other children. Psychological background They did not display any hyper activeness but have been deprived love as they cling to anyone that carries them. They did not display any unusual behaviour but cry sometimes without a reason. |
